How to Style a Skater Skirt

Hi there,

A major trend I have noticed this summer are casual skater skirts. Flirty and fun, this item of clothing can be dressed up or down as much as the wearer pleases. Ideal for summer barbecues as well as cocktail parties, check out the way I would style various skirts.

The 'Avery'

1) First things first, find a skater skirt in a trendy, multi-seasonal color. In this case, mint green is perfect.
*Look for a skirt with a unique texture- as it will make your look much more interesting.
2) Next, choose a patterned top. A crop top is definitely easier to work with, but a longer top can certainly be bloused out if necessary. A front tuck is also a great idea.
*Incorporate the color of your skirt into the top, to accent it.
3) Throw on a favorite pair of comfy wedges to dress up the look.
*A wedge is generally much more functional than a heel.
4) Finish off the look with a statement necklace.

'The Emily'

1) Pick a solid colored skirt in a functional neutral color.
2) Choose a structured top that will contrast with the looser fitting skirt.
*Choosing a top with lace detailing will refresh the look, making it much more aesthetically pleasing.
3) Once again, wedges are definitely the way to go to make a look both comfortable and crowd pleasing.
4) Add a delicate necklace.
* It will draw the eye to your face, and make the look more detailed.

That's all for now!

Love always,

Greetings from New York, New York!

Hello all,

My name is Margo Kaplan, and I am currently entering my sophomore year of high school. This summer, I am taking part in a program called Passport NYC run by the 92nd Street Y. As you may have guessed, I am specializing in fashion. So far, my experience has been great. I have learned much  from a plethora of professionals in the industry- such as Frieda and Nellie's team, as well as undergarment designers at Calvin Klein, not to mention amazing visits with buyers at Want, and an amazing visit from the Wanderlust duo.

Aside from the designated visits, sheerly being in Manhattan every day has taught me a great deal about fashion. Every day, it is wonderful to watch New Yorkers bring high fashion trends to life, as well as starting many of their own.

Although I would't necessarily call myself a trendsetter, fashion means quite a bit to me. Not only does it allow me to express myself, but it serves as a constant reminder that I am an individual. Through my personal aesthetic, I am able to show the world who I am at a first glance.

I cannot wait to share my love of fashion with all of you!

Hope you enjoy,

Margo H. Kaplan
